How I Planned My Show at Blick Gallery

Yvonne Ham / Comment on this

This  show was great way to experience how to show in a gallery.   The Blick Gallery is located inside the Galesburg Civic Art Center in Galesburg, Illinois.   The gallery is just the right size for my 26 new paintings.  The gallery uses metal hangers which are very easy to use.

This is just a sample of one wall with four paintings on it.   The larges painting Dance Practice measures 24 by 30.   Most of the paintings were hung at eye level.   I grouped  the small 8x10 portraits together.   I thought it looked more cohesive keeping subject matter together.

Prior to the show I had to plan what each painting I would include in the show.  I asked myself if it fit my tile for the show (People and Places).   I wanted to showcase my portraits so they where the foundation of the show.   My frames where picked based on the enhancement they gave to the painting.   It took just under two hours to hang the paintings but, a year to plan, and create the finished show.

The show is just three weeks long, lasting from July 3, 2014 until July 24, 2014.   This is just the beginning of more great shows to come.  Thank you to the Galesburg Civic Art Center for all the great planing and support of the arts.  Thanks you to all the great models, family, and friends for sharing in my show.
