3 of 30 January 2015 Painting Blue Cap

I enjoyed how this painting came out. I just recently began painting again with watercolors so I was a little rusty. I wanted it to have kind of a fantasy quality about it. The face needed to blend into the background of the cape and get lost. The photo color under the hood was black but, I chose to lighten it up a bit. I rarely use black as a hue in and of itself. I use a mixture of alizarin crimson, sap green and ultramarine blue if I want a dark color that resembles black. I lightened up the face to warm up the painting a bit. The background color works well with the skin tones of the face.
